Hi - I’m Sonu Aggarwal; welcome to my site!
A quick summary of my professional background: I currently work at Microsoft, as the Director of Technical Strategy and Partnerships for Unified Communications. Previously, I was the Director/Group Program Manager for the Office Communications Server group, where I was responsible for coordinating the roadmap, feature set, and execution for all aspects of Office Communications Server 2007. I co-invented the first-ever enterprise IM technology in 1997 at my first startup Flash Communications, which was acquired by Microsoft to seed its efforts in Real-Time Collaboration; I have been involved with the Real-Time Communications/Collaboration space almost continuously since. I have a B.S. and M.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. (My detailed resume is here.)
On the personal front – I currently live in Bellevue, a suburb of Seattle. I’m originally from India, where I was born (Bombay) and attended high school (Delhi) before coming to the U.S. for College (Dartmouth and MIT). I am married to Tanvi, who hails from Shahabad in Northern India; we have a 5 year old daughter Sonal. We love the outdoors – traveling (some of the more interesting trips we’ve done have been to Ecuador, Peru, Egypt, Kenya, and Scotland), hiking & backpacking, bicycling, and skiing. I also like western classical & New Age music, Tanvi likes Indian classical dance, and we are both learning to play the piano. I love reading – esp. interesting business & economics nonfiction, including the daily Wall Street Journal.
